We’ve been through the quarterbacks and running backs and now it’s time to sort out the wide receivers (WR) that I’m considering for week one of the FanDuel Fantasy Football season. There are plenty to choose from and I’ve narrowed it down to five plays I would like you to consider.
My number one target this week is the Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper ($7,100). I really like the matchup he has with the New Orleans Saints, I like the 51 point over under, Raiders QB Derek Carr and I also like the fact that the Saints are a 1 point favorite at home. All of these things suggest this one is going to be a shootout and I really like shootouts! The Saints weren’t very good at holding WR’s at bay allowing nearly 26 Fantasy points a game in 2015 and to be honest they haven’t gotten much better. If Cooper is too pricey for you Michael Crabtree ($6,100) should also see plenty of targets on Sunday. I would use Crabtree in tournaments and Cooper in cash and tournament play.
The Buffalo Bills fly to Baltimore to take on the Ravens this Sunday and the price is right for the Bills WR Sammy Watkins ($7,300). Last season the Ravens allowed WR’s nearly 26 Fantasy points a night and that right there bodes well for FanDuel owners. The Ravens are a 3 point favorite at home with a decent over under of 44. This suggests to me the Bills are going to be playing catch up and the Tyrod Taylor to Watkins longball threat is always there including this 53 yard beauty last season. This to me is strictly a tournament play and if I were to target Watkins I would strongly consider rostering Taylor also.
The New York Jets WR Eric Decker ($6,900) isn’t the sexiest choice on the slate but he’s a solid proven cash play. While the matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals isn’t the most ideal one the Bengals did allow receivers to score nearly 20 Fantasy points a game in 2015 and they haven’t gotten much better. Vegas has the Bengals as a 2 point favorite with a 44 point over under suggesting the Jets might be coming from behind and airing the ball out. This bodes well for Decker and those cash game players rostering him this Sunday. Cash only and a one off as I probably wouldn’t want to roster anyone playing QB for the Jets this coming Sunday.
Another wide receiver I’m considering this week is the Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones Jr ($5,500). I like the 49.5 over under and I especially like that the Indianapolis Colts are currently a 6.5 point favorite. In 2015 the Colts secondary allowed receivers to score 24.48 Fantasy points per game and maybe the Colts are a little more solid but not much more. I expect the Lions to be coming from behind in this one and with the ankle injury making Lions WR Golden Tate questionable QB Matthew Stafford should have Jones on his radar Sunday. I would only use Jones in tournaments and maybe you could also consider adding Stafford to your tournament lineup on Sunday.
This one is a boom or bust but it’s hard to overlook the Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor this week ($4,900). Pryor is for sure starting on Sunday and he looked very good this preseason including catching a 50 yard touchdown pass. The Philadelphia Eagles are currently a 4 point favorite with a 41 point over under suggesting there won’t be a whole bunch of points scored but with the Browns coming from behind. Pryor is a solid deep ball threat and the Eagles 2015 pass defense allowed receivers 2894 yards so maybe this is a reach but the price point is just too difficult to let slide for Pryor this weekend. Tournaments only and if he goes off thank me on Monday!
We wrap up our suggestions for week one of the FanDuel Fantasy Football season with tight ends (TE’s). I know plenty of DFS Fantasy Football players who like to “punt” the TE position but I’m not one of them. I think I found some great value this week so let’s get after it.
You can’t honestly write a column about DFS TE’s and not mention the New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski ($8,700). The Dude scores like a wide receiver and is always a threat whenever he steps on the field. He’s supposedly dealing with a hamstring issue and while I won’t be playing him Sunday he does have an interesting matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. Go ahead and roll him out there in cash and tournament games if that is what you wish.
The TE I am high on this week is the New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener ($5,400). Last season Fleener finished 12th in targets among tight ends and is in a great matchup with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders allowed the third most points to TE’s in 2015 and if anyone can exploit this it is the Saints QB Drew Brees. The Saints are currently favored by 1 point with the highest over under on the slate. That’s just what we like to hear isn’t it? You can roll Fleener out there in both cash and tournaments Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten ($5,500) is one of the best in the business and he has a nice matchup with the New York Giants. Tight ends averaged 11.39 Fantasy points per game against the Giants in 2015 and we can probably expect more of the same from them in 2016. Dallas is currently a 4 point favorite with a decent 44 point over under but for me it’s the matchup with the Giants I like more than anything else. Cash games only for Mr. Witten.
One TE that is a bit pricey but has a great matchup and will probably be flying completely under the radar is the Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed ($7,400). QB Kirk Cousins targets Reed quite a bit and against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that allowed TE’s nearly 9 Fantasy points a game I see plenty of targets thrown Reed’s way Sunday. Huge over under of 50.5 points with the Steelers currently 3 point favorites suggests a crazy high scoring shootout on Monday night! I prefer using Reed in tournaments but I could see also using him in cash lineups this week.
The last TE on my list of targets is the Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron ($5,100). Last season Ebron was targeted 14 times in the red zone and I look for that to continue on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. The aforementioned Colts allowed 8.58 Fantasy points per game in 2015 and with them being 3.5 point favorites I look for a nice game flow with Ebron seeing enough action to make value and then some! Ebron can be used in both cash and tournament play and he is super cheap this week!
Good luck this week at FanDuel!
