Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Adds: The Quarterback Edition

11038700_888963461186688_7086183026707461902_nWe’re heading into week three of the Fantasy Football season and the Quarterbacks are dropping like flies. We’re going to need replacements for these wounded generals and we’d better get started because we have a LOT to cover this week.

Injured Quarterbacks

Tony Romo has a broken clavicle and is going to be out anywhere from 6-10 weeks.

Drew Brees has allegedly had surgery to repair an injured rotator cuff and at the time of this writing is out for who knows how long.

Jay Cutler is going to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks with an injured hamstring.

Josh McCown has a concussion and at the time of this writing we have no idea just how long he will be sidelined.

Matthew Stafford got knocked around pretty good and at the time of this writing his week three status is up in the air.

Waiver Wire Quarterbacks for Week Three

Johnny Manziel has been turning heads in Cleveland and with McCown still seeing stars he is currently the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. Johnny Football hasn’t exactly set the world on fire but he hasn’t burned his house down yet either. The Browns are 1-1 with Manziel at the helm and thus far he’s 21-39 for  with 3 TD’s and 1 interception. He’s also ran the ball 8 times for 36 yards. The Browns obviously don’t throw the ball very much but Manziel has been efficient and is available in over 90 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues. This Sunday the Browns host the Oakland Raiders who are currently allowing 326 yards in the air per game. If you do decide on Manziel you might also consider picking up Manziel’s favorite target Travis Benjamin. Benjamin has reeled in 6 passes for 204 yards and 3 TD’s.  Benjamin has catches of 54 and 60 yards and would be a great addition to your lineup this week with or without Manziel. Benjamin is currently available in over 90 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues.

Andy Dalton has been having a quiet but consistent season thus far for the 2-0 Cincinnati Bengals. Dalton is 41-60 for 483 yards with 5 TD’s and zero interceptions on the young season. Despite having A.J. Green Dalton isn’t exactly the big play type as he’s had just 4 passing plays of over 20 plus yards but he’s very consistent and would be the perfect backup for your roster. The Bengals opponent Sunday is the Baltimore Ravens who allow 250 yards per game in the air. Dalton is available in just over 75 percent of all Major Fantasy Football teams and if you are considering Dalton you might also consider Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones: Jones has had 4 receptions on 8 targets for 67 yards with his longest on a 45 yard TD pass from Dalton. Jones is available in roughly 80 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues.

Joe Flacco is also widely available and while the Baltimore Ravens are 0-2 Flacco is off to a decent start going 50-77 and 501 yards with 2 TD’s and 3 interceptions. His last game against the Raiders he threw for over 350 yards and a couple of touchdowns so there seems to be life still in Flacco. The Ravens host the pass stringy defense of the Cincinnati Bengals and while this might be a stiff test Flacco should be up to the task. Flacco is currently available in just over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues and if you are considering Flacco you might also want to consider Ravens TE Crockett Gillmore. Gillmore has 2 touchdowns on 7 receptions for 111 yards and last Sunday Flacco targeted the big tight end 6 times.  Gillmore is available in over 90 percent of Major Fantasy Football leagues.

Teddy Bridgewater and the Minnesota Vikings are off to a 1-1 start and Bridgewater has been fairly efficient on 37-54 passing for 384 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception with his longest TD being 49 yards. Bridgewater is also a threat to run the football with 9 rushes for 37 yards and a TD. On Sunday he Vikings a San Diego Chargers team that allows just over 230 yards passing per game so Sunday just might be a nice afternoon for the just over 55 percent available Bridgewater. If you are considering adding Bridgewater you just might want to add Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph. Rudolph seems to be one of Bridgewater’s favorites targeting him 14 times for 10 receptions, 83 yards and a touchdown. Rudolph is available in just over 60 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues.

Tyrod Taylor and the Buffalo Bills are off to a 1-1 start with Taylor going 37-49 for 437 yards and 4 touchdowns with 3 interceptions while rushing for an additional 84 yards on 14 carries for a touchdown. Taylor connected this past Sunday with 8 different receivers and on Sunday he’ll face a Dolphins team that allows roughly 250 yards passing per game so this could be Taylor’s day to shine. Taylor is available in just over 80 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues and if you are considering Taylor you might want to also consider Bills TE Charles Clay; Clay has had 10 balls thrown his way catching 7 of them for 87 yards and a touchdown. Clay is available in just over 80 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues.
