FanDuel MLB Top Picks, Stacks and Pitching Options for Wednesday May 10, 2017

There are nine games on the main FanDuel MLB slate for tonight. Even though Coors Field isn’t in play tonight we have a couple of very high projected run totals in Arizona and Milwaukee. We also have some tough choices tonight at starting pitcher.

The only game that might be in trouble tonight is the Twins/White Sox game. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and for up to the minute info I use Dark Sky.

Game Money Line Over Under Totals

Cardinals @ Marlins Both teams at -105 8
Padres @ Rangers Rangers -205 8.5
Red Sox @ Brewers Both teams at -105 9.5

Starting Pitching Options Tonight

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish ($11,200) has a good opportunity tonight against a San Diego Padres offense with a 25 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .294 and wRC+ of 82 against right handed pitching this season. In 26.1 innings pitched at home this season Darvish has a 25.7 percent strikeout rate, 9.23 strikeouts per nine innings and an xFIP of 3.90.  The worrisome thing here is the 4.44 walks per nine innings that makes his 1.03 bombs per nine a little nerve wracking.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer ($10,400) isn’t the most expensive option in the top tier but he might have the best opportunity of the bunch tonight when he goes up against a Kansas City Royals offense with a 20 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of 284 and wRC+ of 75 this season against right handed pitching. In 25.2 innings pitched at home this season Archer has an 11.57 strikeouts per nine innings, 32 percent strikeout rate with a 2.69 xFIP.

St Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn ($8900) has a solid opportunity tonight against a Miami Marlins offense with a 20 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .304 and wRC+ of 85 against right handed pitchers this season. Lynn is striking out 11 hitters per nine innings pitched, 24 percent strikeout rate and a 4.25 xFIP in 17 innings pitched on the road this season. Lynn is walking 4.44 hitters per nine on the road and the 1.59 bombs per nine are a bit troubling for me.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Kenta Maeda ($8700) has a good opportunity tonight at home against a Pittsburgh Pirates offense with a 18 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .300 and wRC+ of 84 against right handed pitching this season. In 16 innings pitched this season at home Maeda has a 26.2 percent strikeout rate for a 9.56 strikeouts per nine innings, 1.13 bombs per nine and an xFIP of 3.30 at home this season. Maeda is walking just 2.2 hitters per nine at home this season.

Stacking Opportunities for Tonight

It’s fairly obvious you will want exposure to the Tigers/Diamondbacks game and also the Red Sox/Brewers game. I’ll let you figure out which teams you are going to use tonight. Below are a couple of stacks that you can use to go along with the stack from the teams already mentioned.

I like the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Chad Kuhl. The Dodgers are pounding righties this season to the tune of a .170 ISO, wOBA of .343 and a wRC+ of 114. Dodgers’ bats I like tonight are Cody Bellinger ($3500), Justin Turner ($3700), Corey Seager ($3500) and Yasmani Grandal ($2900).

I also like the Washington Nationals tonight against Baltimore Orioles SP Wade Miley. The Nat’s have smacked around left handed pitching this season with a .282 ISO, wOBA of .422 and wRC+ of 157 against lefties.   I like Ryan Zimmerman ($4400), Bryce Harper ($5100), Anthony Rendon ($3400) and Jayson Werth ($3500) tonight.

Phil’s Top Three Picks for Wednesday Night

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts ($4300) has a good opportunity tonight against Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson and his 4.85 xFIP and his 32 percent fly ball rate at home against right handed hitters. Betts has a .415 ISO, .488 wOBA and wRC+ of 217 in 47 plate appearances against right handed pitching this season. Betts has also hit all four of his bombs on the road against righties.

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara ($3100) has a good opportunity tonight against San Diego Padres SP Luis Perdoma. Perdoma has a small sample size but we do know Mazara has a .182 ISO, wOBA of .334 and wRC+ of 109 against right handed pitching at home this season. Mazara has also hit all five of his bombs this season against righties with two of them coming at home.

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas ($3500) has a good opportunity tonight against Detroit Tigers SP Matt Boyd and his 32 percent away fly ball rate and 5.48 xFIP against right handed bats this season. Tomas has a .118 ISO, wOBA of .226 and wRC+ of 30 against lefties at home this season in only 18 plate appearances. This season’s stats are a far cry from what he’s done against lefties at home so I have no fear about Tomas tonight against Matt Boyd.
